Jennie co-anchors WJBF NewsChannel 6’s weekday newscasts at 4:00p, 5:00p, 6:00p, and 11:00p. She also hosts a weekly talk show, Jennie, with a focus on women’s issues, family, and community events. It airs on Tuesdays at 12:30, immediately following NewsChannel 6 at Noon.
An award-winning broadcast journalist, Jennie joined the WJBF team in 1995 and has been anchoring the evening news since 1997, when she joined Bob Young on the news desk. A year later, Bob resigned to run for Mayor of Augusta, and Brad Means joined the WJBF team. Brad and Jennie have been bringing NewsChannel 6 viewers the evening news for 26 years!
Jennie grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC with a BS degree in Psychology.
Jennie has earned two prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards–the first for her series of reports on short term medical mission trips to Central America, in the documentary “Mission to Nicaragua.” The second in 2016, for another documentary, “Finding Birth Families,” which followed reunion stories of siblings and a mother and daughter.
Jennie has been recognized six times by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. She has won four GABBY awards for Best On-Air Personality. The Georgia Association of Broadcasters has also honored her work with a GABBY for Best Documentary and a Merit Award for Best Series.
In 2000, she was named Best Female Anchor by the National Academy of Television Journalists.
Over the years, readers of Augusta Magazine have voted Jennie Best News Anchor and Best Female News Anchor many times, and she’s won the Best TV Hair!
She was the 2000 recipient of the Augusta West Rotary Club’s TV-Media award, and in 2006, the WARC presented her with the Louis Harris Media Award for outstanding professional and civic contributions to the Augusta community.
Jennie was also honored with the Alumni Excellence Award from her alma mater, Guilford College and the Doing The Most Good Award from the Augusta Salvation Army. She served on the Advisory Board of Directors for the Augusta Area Salvation Army for 8 years and served as Board Chair 2014-2015.
Other community accolades include recognitions from civic groups and organizations in the two-state, including the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Savannah River Site Chapter/National Management Association; honorary keys to a couple of cities in the CSRA; Action Ministries’ Action Hero Award in 2013, the Sunshine Community Service Award from Augusta Mini Theatre in 2018, and the 2023 Greater Augusta Arts Council’s Media Award.
For some 15 years, Jennie wrote a monthly parenting column, “Mom2Mom“, for Augusta Family Magazine. Over the course of those years, Parenting Publications of America honored her work numerous times with the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards for Best Humor Columnist.
Jennie is a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Augusta. She is very involved in the Augusta community through volunteer work with non-profits and foundations. Besides the Salvation Army, her community service has included serving on the boards of the former University Healthcare Foundation and again on the Piedmont Foundation, March of Dimes of East Central Georgia, and the American Cancer Society’s Trees for Life committee. She has also been a strong supporter of Women in Philanthropy for the CSRA and the Augusta Symphony Orchestra.
Jennie and her husband, Scott, have three grown children and welcomed a son-in-law into the family in 2020. They also have a couple of four-legged kids: a toy poodle named Ace and a cat named Stymie!
A HUGE Gino Vannelli fan, Jennie enjoys stalking the singer (LOL!) going to as many concerts as she can! She loves art projects, puzzles, and traveling!
